Tina Chunn, CPA

Senior Manager, State and Local Tax

Tina is a senior manager with Aprio’s State & Local Tax group. She has over 24 years of experience assisting companies and their owners to minimize their tax liability and maximize their profitability. Some of the industries Tina serves include professional services, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, telecommunications, real estate, retailers and wholesalers.

Tina has extensive experience dealing with corporate tax issues, including state and local tax returns; state and federal tax credits; state and local sales; and use, income, escheat, business licenses and property tax issues. She also has experience in merger and acquisition activities and the impact on state and local taxes. Tina has negotiated several state and local tax incentives packages as well as managed the required compliance to retain statutory credits.

Tina spent over four years working with the State of Alabama Department of Revenue working with the Chief of Income Tax and the Commissioner. Her duties included review of pending legislation, drafting of rules and regulations, training of staff, and serving on the economic incentives team to assist and advise relocating companies on Alabama’s tax structure and available tax incentives. She also worked at KPMG in the Business Incentives Group working with national companies to negotiate relocation and expansion statutory and non-statutory incentives.

Subsequently, Tina moved to industry to work with BellSouth Corporation for more than three years. She served as a member of the sales and telecommunications tax team, determining the taxability of the various telecommunications service offerings by the BellSouth companies. She also worked diligently with sales tax audit, use tax provisions (through a centralized purchasing agent) and other telecommunications tax issues.

Most recently, Tina served for six years in the UPS Corporate Tax Department, primarily working with state and local taxes. She was also a member of the team that was assigned to work with the logistics and supply chain companies that were being acquired and merged into the UPS operations. With these companies, she assisted in bringing them into conformity with UPS standards and federal and state tax requirements while developing a model for continued compliance going forward.

As a member of Aprio’s State & Local Tax group, Tina advises clients regarding state and local tax issues. Tina has assisted in negotiating audit settlements and filing voluntary compliance agreements, providing state and local tax support to internal staff and clients, and performing credit and compliance reviews. She continues to review client businesses and activities to verify that the state and local taxes are properly filed while working to minimize the overall tax liability of our clients.

Tina received both her Bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Auburn University. She is a Certified Public Accountant, and her professional affiliations include:
