Andy explains that recent changes to Arizona’s alternative business structure (ABS) program may discourage some out-of-state firms and investors, particularly those unable to meet the state’s requirements for serving Arizona residents. At the same time, he notes that ABSs continue to provide an innovative framework for law firms seeking outside investment while expanding legal service delivery and client access.
Andy also points to the regulatory complexity of ABS firms as a factor driving interest toward management services organizations (MSOs). He notes that MSOs offer a faster and often simpler path for investment because investors support a law firm’s business operations rather than acquiring an ownership stake in the legal practice itself.
