Overview
Darrin Friedrich is a Partner in Aprio’s Tax practice with more than 35 years of experience serving the real estate and construction industry. Darrin works closely with C-level executives, owners, and investors involved in real estate development, construction, management, investment, and lending. His specialties include entity structuring, transaction planning, and long-term tax strategy, helping owners and executives manage tax risk, improve cash flow, and support sustainable growth throughout the real estate lifecycle.
Experience
Darrin advises private real estate companies, merchant developers, property management firms, homebuilders, real estate funds, real estate investment trusts, family offices, and domestic and international investors. His work focuses on providing integrated tax consulting, tax compliance, and business advisory services that help clients structure operations efficiently, execute tax-advantaged transactions, and minimize federal and state tax exposure.
A few of his career highlights include directing millions of dollars of capital gains into qualified opportunity zone assets, maximizing the utilization of tax incentives for multiple developers to minimize the tax burden on their promoted interests, and restructuring estate owned assets to minimize impact on liquidation of assets.
In his practice within Aprio, Darrin works together with developers and funds to provide guidance and ensure timely and accurate returns. He also serves the firm as its National Real Estate Tax Team Leader.
Education & Affiliations
Darrin earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Accountancy degrees, with a focus on taxation, from the University of Georgia. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, Darrin has served several leadership positions for The Epstein School, including Board Chair, Head of School Advisory Chair, and Treasurer. He has also served as Treasurer for the Weber School and Temple Sinai. Previously, he was a member of the Planned Giving & Endowment Committee of the Jewish Federation of Georgia. Darrin is also the immediate past president of The Aprio Foundation.
