Joseph has over 22 years of experience in tax and has helped clients work through the entire Affordable Housing deal lifecycle, from inception to investor exit and resyndication. As the firm’s leader in Sustainability and Renewable Energy Tax Consulting, he provides a wide range of services, including tax and tax credit structuring and compliance, working with developers, syndicators, structured finance companies, and other sustainability and renewable energy stakeholders.
Experience
His technical and practical knowledge of the tax code provides clients with effective strategies to realize tax benefits once projects are placed into service. By specially allocating 45L credits to developers, deferring credits for a year, and leveraging cost segregation, Joseph has enabled developers to realize millions in depreciation losses.
His specialties include partnership taxation, structuring year-15 exits, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), and Investment Tax Credits, including Historic and Solar Tax Credits. Joseph leverages his proficiency in financial modeling to help clients manage profitability and plan for successful exits.
Education & Affiliations
Joseph earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting from Wake Forest University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Alabama CPA Association and serves on the Wake Forest University Accounting Advisory Council. Joseph also passed the Certified Financial Planner™ exam.
