
Overview
Rebecca Horton works closely with not-for-profit organizations of all sizes, including charities, higher education institutions, and research organizations. Rebecca is well versed in uniform guidance, allowing her to successfully serve organizations receiving federal awards. Her specialties include audit readiness assistance, financial reporting and analysis, and technical accounting.
Experience
Rebecca joined O’Connor Consulting Services, LLC (OCS) in 2019 and has since supported over 20 clients with the implementation of complex technical accounting standards, including not-for-profit financial statement presentation, revenue recognition, and lease accounting. Rebecca was also a key member of the OCS Professional Practice Group and served as a trusted technical resource across the firm. In June 2025, the entire OCS team joined Aprio. Prior to OCS, Rebecca built a distinguished career in the not-for-profit sector. She served as a Senior Manager in KPMG LLP’s not-for-profit audit practice and later as the Controller of the American Petroleum Institute (API), a 501(c)(6) trade association. Leveraging her combined audit and operations experience in prior roles, Rebecca assists clients in identifying and implementing process improvements, preparing for and executing successful audit experiences, and streamlining month-end closing and reporting cycles. She has spoken at numerous industry events, including the Greater Washington Society of CPAs’ Not-For-Profit Symposium.
Education & Affiliations
Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from George Mason University and was awarded the Bronze Medal on the DC CPA Exam in 1998. She is a licensed CPA in the District of Columbia. Rebecca is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs (GWSCPA). She currently serves as Treasurer for the Lutheran Church of the Cross Day School.
