Russell has over 15 years of leadership experience in business strategy and M&A advisory, helping clients drive growth in highly regulated environments. He works with executive teams to determine strategic priorities, strengthen competitive positioning, and pursue value-creating growth through organic initiatives and mergers and acquisitions. Known for disciplined execution, operational rigor, and a team-first leadership style shaped by years of military service, Russell helps clients navigate change with focus and confidence.
Experience
Before joining Aprio, Russell held senior leadership roles in strategy and advisory consulting, where he also led business development efforts and managed flagship client relationships across the federal market. He worked with organizations ranging from emerging small businesses to multi-billion-dollar enterprises, conducting current state assessments and translating findings into actionable growth strategies. His work has included supporting clients as they evaluate expansion opportunities, build out M&A roadmaps, and align leadership, resources, and operating models to execute measurable outcomes.
Earlier in his career, Russell served as a United States Navy fighter pilot with extensive experience in program and project leadership. He also served as a Strategy and Planning Lead responsible for training more than 200 aviators annually from the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Germany in complex tactical aviation scenarios. He also served as Director of Quality Assurance, overseeing 12 maintenance programs spanning multiple aircraft and ordnance, reinforcing the high standards, accountability, and operational excellence he brings to client engagements.
Education & Affiliations
Russell earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana and an MBA from Indiana University. He is a member of The American Legion and an Ambassador for Service to School, which assists service members in gaining acceptance to higher education. Russell also serves as a board member and advisor to several early-stage companies.
