Partner-in-Charge, Litigation Support and Forensic Accounting Services

A partner at Aprio and the leader of the Litigation Support & Forensic Accounting Services team, Howard has more than 40 years of experience in forensic and general accounting (including consulting), complex damage scenarios, insurance loss accounting, financial analysis in both industry and the public sector, auditing and taxation. During his career, Howard has specialized in complex damage and insurance loss claims, including:

  • business interruption (lost profits),
  • intellectual property damages,
  • breach of contract and earn-out disputes,
  • class action wage & hour disputes,
  • broker-dealer disputes,
  • analysis of financial information on potential punitive damage awards,
  • fraud investigations, including fidelity loss matters, and
  • construction loss payment disputes.

Howard is an author and frequent public speaker and has made presentations for the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA), Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), Georgia Society of CPAs, ICLE-GA, Property Loss Research Bureau and the Southern Loss Association. On numerous occasions, Howard has testified as an expert witness in both federal and state jurisdictions and FINRA hearings, and he has served as an appraiser and umpire in alternative dispute resolution forums.

  • Assisted counsel for local municipality in matter involving dispute over rightful amounts due to members of the funded defined benefit retirement accounts
  • Assisted counsel for local municipality in investigation and claim for alleged losses sustained due to termination of high ranking municipal executive
  • Assisted counsel of an international shipping company in providing expert testimony in a $65 million claim for lost profits due to an alleged breach of contract
  • Provided expert testimony for $35 million of claimed lost profits damages by a newscopter company against a major media conglomerate
  • Assisted counsel, prepared exhibits and provided successful expert testimony at a jury trial in defense of a $20.5 million damage claim for loss of market and profits due to alleged product contamination
  • Provided expert testimony at a jury trial in defense of a $2.5 million fraudulent damage claim
  • Prepared exhibits and provided testimony at a jury trial explaining financial condition at time of loss of high profile individual and his related businesses
  • Assisted counsel and provided testimony in defending an intellectual property damages suit brought by large national professional services firm against individuals who left firm and started an alleged competing business using an alleged similar logo and trade name
  • Assisted counsel in defending an intellectual property damages suit brought by an individual who alleged an interest in a startup company and attempted to link this startup to the foundation of what became the electronic exchange
  • Assisted counsel and offered expert testimony in sanctioned FINRA hearings

  • Prepared business interruption insurance loss claims for businesses sustaining damages from a hurricane
