
Overview
Steve is a Partner within Aprio’s Professional Services+ Practice and brings over 25 years of experience leading tax departments and managing people on compliance and consulting projects. He works with managing partners and tax leaders of CPA firms across the U.S. and Canada and helps them navigate business growth, technology, talent development, workload compression, and technical capabilities. He enjoys building community by connecting the right people to address issues in the profession.
Experience
Steve specializes in providing insights into best practices for the opportunities and challenges that CPA firms face. This involves assisting firms in understanding their clients’ technical tax issues, providing access to valuable resources, and bringing together peers to share insights and learn together. Additionally, he provides tax advisory services for tax leaders within CPA firms on the various aspects of growing and running their business, advising on offshore, technology, profitability, and navigating Capitol Hill.
Growing up on a farm near a small town in central Minnesota, Steve learned the value of hard work and helping your neighbors at a young age. His background informs how he helps his clients manage business challenges, leveraging a unique mix of skillsets and solutions from his extensive network across the U.S. and Canada.
Steve has been widely recognized for his contributions to the accounting profession as Co-Founder of the AICPA LGBTQ+ Initiatives Committee and as the first National Leader of RSM’s Pride Employee Network Group, where he championed LGBT inclusion in the retention and recruitment of employees and clients across the firm.
Education & Affiliations
Steve earned his Master’s in Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and his Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Hamline University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Minnesota Society of CPAs (MNCPA). Steve is also actively involved in several charities, including Second Harvest Heartland, Feline Rescue, and Superior Hiking Trail Association.
