Overview

Carli Huband leads Aprio’s National Specialty Tax Practice and co-leads the National R&D Tax Credit Practice. Carli serves companies across a variety of industries, ranging in size from startups to Fortune 100 businesses, curating the optimal suite of services to maximize tax savings, minimize tax liability, and prevent risk pertaining to some of the most complex areas of tax law. Carli has served on Aprio’s Board of Directors for several years, notably during Aprio’s first private equity transaction. She currently serves as Corporate Secretary for the board and as Chair for the Aprio for All Committee.

Experience

Carli’s experience spans a broad range of specialty tax services, where she and her team create long-term value for clients and investors. She advises companies from early-stage startups to Fortune 100 corporations across a wide range of industries. Her specialties include state and local tax credits and incentives, cost segregation studies, customs and tariff savings, employment and payroll tax advisory, corporate restructuring, stock incentive planning, global tax compliance, transfer pricing, M&A tax diligence and integration, and audit defense. Carli also co-leads Aprio’s U.S. and International R&D Tax Credit Practice. She has deep experience calculating credits for clients with multi-year or military contracts, complex controlled groups or international structures, and internal-use software. Additionally, Carli frequently helps clients leverage state credits against payroll withholding, particularly through Georgia’s program. Her contributions to the profession and broader community have been recognized with 40 Under 40 honors from Roswell Magazine (2019) and the Atlanta Business Chronicle (2021).

Education & Affiliations

Carli received a B.S. in English Literature from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. and Master’s in Taxation from Georgia State University. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), where she also serves as Sponsorship Chair for YPO’s Atlanta Chapter. In addition, she serves on the boards and is a member of the Audit Committees of both the Woodruff Art Center and Zoo Atlanta.
