Phil Wooten, CPA
Tax Partner | Aprio
Aprio Advisory Group, LLC
Who I work with
I work with the owners and controllers of construction companies, general and subcontractors with revenues ranging between $5 and $225 million, small businesses in a variety of other industries and individual tax clients.
My specialty
I specialize in providing tax advisory and planning services, as well as income tax preparation for both individuals and businesses.
Results I have delivered
I’ve helped a long list of clients reduce their tax liabilities by thousands of dollars using strategies like cost segregation studies on newly constructed buildings and frontloading charitable contributions using donor advised funds. Not only did this help our clients offset large tax gains from selling company stock, it also helped foster charitable giving to causes that our clients care about.
Unique things about me
I dreamed of being a professional skater when I was younger. That didn’t work out, so I chose a profession that was pretty much the same thing: being a CPA.
When I was in college I went on a summerlong mission trip driving through Central America. We drove through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua delivering medical supplies, providing free repairs and maintenance to several orphanages and laid the foundations for homes and a new orphanage in Honduras. It was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
I also have a group of friends from high school and college who I’ve stayed in touch with over the years. We make a point to meet up every year for an annual camping trip.
When I am not at work
When I’m not at work I like to read, hike the greenbelts in Austin, play golf, go camping and cast a line into the closest lake or river. I also like to go into town to catch the local shows – just not on nights when LSU is playing. I’m a huge college football fan in general, but LSU has a special place in my heart. I bleed purple and gold.
People say I am
Easy to talk to, kind, intelligent, that I have a great sense of humor and that I’m very humble.
